Betts Expands Its Services with the Terra-sonic TSi 150cc Sonic Driller

ADEL, GA July 12, 2018 – Betts Environmental, a leading environmental and sonic drilling company announced earlier this month its addition of the Terra-Sonic TSi 150cc Driller to its fleet.

Betts is very customer driven and its clients had been asking for safer, more environmentally friendly drilling applications. Being in the industry for the past 25 years, Betts keeps a pulse on the advancement in drill rigs and techniques. They have had the opportunity to work in several locations and across different terrains in the Southeast giving them experience with using a variety of applications.

“Investment in the Terra-sonic driller was a no brainer, explains Tony Betts, CEO of Betts Environmental. “By adding the sonic driller we can use a more sustainable practice that offers our clients the best in drilling applications and safety features all while saving them time and money.”

Sonic drilling is the most innovative and cost-effective drilling method on the market today. This method has numerous added safety benefits for the field technicians with less hands-on work and much less labor intensive. The Terra-sonic driller can also penetrate surfaces (granite and bedrock) other drillers cannot and does it faster and deeper.

Some features of the Terra-Sonic TSi 150CC ATV mounted drill rig:

  • 3 – 6x faster
  • Produces up to 80 percent less waste
  • Less than 1 percent deviation on samples
  • Nearly perfect sample recovery
  • Little to no refusals
  • Penetrates 1000 ft deep

We chose to work with Terra Sonic because of their industry knowledge and high quality products. Their products are built with the driller in mind and their attention to detail gives us the piece of mind that we can get the job done.

Not a Boring Job – Savannah

Location: Savannah, Georgia
Job: I-16 and I-95 IntersectThis was an eight month DOT project for future improvement of this intersection’s safety and traffic efficiency, widening of roadways and addition of bridges. Betts provided a mixture of crews  and equipment on this site throughout the duration of the project including geoprobe’s, ATV mounted CME’s and excavator clearing crews. Betts provided SPT borings for soil characterization and site investigation to assist in the preparation for the future road and bridge construction. This project required extensive amounts of night work to keep our crews safe from daily high levels of traffic congestion in the area.

Drilling with a View – Atlanta

Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Job: I-285 and SR 400 Improvement Project

This is an ongoing project with the Georgia DOT to be completed by 2020. Betts has been providing site characterization and soil investigation geotechnical services for the past two years. The project will help improve the infrastructure with new ramps, collector and distributor lanes and reconstruction of bridges to help reduce traffic congestion and enhance safety near the i-285/SR 400 interchange in Atlanta. We have had to use truck mounted CME’s, ATV mounted CME’s and geoprobes with GDOT certified automatic SPT hammers based on the surfaces and terrain we encounter. The work has been split by our crews in Atlanta and Adel.

Drilling With a View

Betts has been drilling the i-85 and i-400 project for quite some time now as it is a job that keeps on giving which of course is everyone’s favorite kind. We have been providing geotechnical drilling mainly with ATV rigs for about two years. The work has been split by our Atlanta office’s crews and our Adel crews. Catching a nice view like this one on break makes the hard work worthwhile.

Its wet in Atlanta, we are still working but the dirt moving guys packed up and went home.

Everyone Needs a Lift Sometimes

This picture was taken in the greater Atlanta area on a geotechnical site. The project was to test the roof surface of the building for the base of a large billboard that was constructed on top of the building. Pictured is a crane that was brought to lift one of our Geoprobe 7822’s on to the rooftop for drilling. This was a bit of a unique day for one of our crews.

Here is proof we do drill on the moon but the mobilization is really expensive and it’s really hard to find a decent hotel…

Savannah – i-95 and i-16

Betts Environmental spent about eight months in Savannah, Georgia drilling geotechnical SPT borings in the area where i-16 and i-95 intersect. This project was for the future improvement of this intersection’s safety and traffic efficiency. We had a mixture of crews on site throughout the duration of this project including geoprobe, ATV and excavator clearing crews. Our crews and project managers worked day and night over the eight month period this job endured.
